ASSAM
When you enter North East, you have to enter through Assam. Being the Gateway of North East, it attains more importance geographically and politically. The state was known as the Kamrupa in the olden days. As it was ruled by the Ahom kings, it was called as Asom, which then became Assam.
It has many places of tourist importance, for cultural values, religious values and natural views. For the religiously inclined, there are many important temples, like Kamakhya at Guwahati, one of the important Sakthi peetas, Umananda temple situated in the Peacock Island in the middle of Brahmaputra, Navagraha temple, Balaji Mandir, Basishta Mandir, Gita Mandir, Aswaklandha, Dol Govinda and Shyam Mandir in Guwahati, besides other place, like Sibsagar, which is famous for Shiv Dhol, Majuli with 22 Satras.
